Velvicut axes are produced by the most experienced artisans with the utmost care. The blade is forged from 5160 grade alloy steel for strength toughness and durability. In addition the blade is heat-treated and quenched to produce a hardened edge which is tempered to Rc 52-56. The curved handle is made of grade A American Hickory for proper grain orientation and alignment and is mounted to the head in a traditional manner using a softwood wedge crossed with a steel wedge for added security.

The Saddle Axe from Council Tool Co.Axe is a traditional Velvicut Premium US Made Axe pattern and drop forged from 5160 steel. This easy to carry axe is known for its superior characteristics and blade retention. This axe is a beautiful axe, however it was designed and manufactured for work. It has been heat treated, tempered and crafted with a distinctive flat grind on each blade for maximum versatility.

Council Tool CTSU22B28C 2.25 lb. Dayton axe head outfitted with a 28′′ curved hickory handle. Popularly referred to as a “boy’s” axe. A “mid” sized tool. Dayton pattern originated from the Dayton, Ohio, area. Forged tool steel head. Made in USA. Hand sharpened, tapered bit for cutting and light splitting. ANSI Standards call for bit hardness of Rc 45-60, at least ½ inch back from the cutting edge.
