Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery, Colonel of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, yesterday greeted about 250 guests who attended a garden party at the Regimental Headquarters, St. John's House, Warwick. The guests had tea in a large marquee for rain swept down on the tables and chairs which had been placed in the grounds in the hope of fine weather. The regimental band which starts a recruiting tour next week and will be coming to Coventry, played under cover in a separate marquee. Among the guests, who were shown over the regimental museum, were officers of the regiment and their wives and civic officials from throughout the county. The garden party was the first to be held since the regiment moved its headquarters to St. Johns House in August last year. It is intended to be an annual function in place of similar gatherings which were held at the Budbrooke Regimental Depot which has now closed down. The officers attending included Lieut. -Col. H. C. Illing whois going to Germany next month to take over command of the 1st Battalion.
